Review: The Hobbit The Desolation of Smaug

Directed by: Peter Jackson
Starring: Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Orlando Bloom, Richard Armitage

It's good that Peter Jackson put some scene in the opening which remind us what's the point of this journey by those dwarves and hobbit since the first prequel was already a year ago; the reason why Thorin come along the way to Eerebor, to reclaim dwarf's homeland from Smaug, with the helps of Bilbo who has to stole the Arkenstone. The whole movie itself shown how they made the journey into Erebor and finally meet with The Unbeatable Smaug. And for you who watching LOTR because of Orlando Bloom, you gotta love this movie more because there's Legolas yaaaayyy! There are also some scene of forbidden love happens, when Kili (the dwarf) like Tauriel (elf), quite same with what happen between Aragorn and Arwen in LOTR. Anyway, if you put attention in some scene, you'll see its connection to some story in LOTR, like Gloin who actually is Gimli father (dwarf who accompany Frodo to destroy the rings) and the first appearance of Sauron. What I hate from this kind of trilogy movie is the fact that I have to wait until one year later to know the ending.

The Heirs (And The Hottest Man In The World)

It's been a while since The Heirs drama has been released. I didn't rush to watch it even Echa has offering to give the files. I just don't like the idea that I have to wait one week more to see how the story's going. I want to finish in one go. So, here I am. Been locked up in my room for two days, only get out for meals and wrapped up some things in college, then come back into my crib.

The stories itself was like other typical Korean drama. Poor girl that likes rich boy and they have to overcome many
obstacles to go through, then so many people that involved and makes it more complicated.

.....including this guy. Blame him for making me stay in front of my laptop for at least 20 hours. I even dreamt about him last night :p

Kim Woobin as Choi Young Do
He acted as a bad boy that always bullying people in the school, including Eun Sang. But turned out he likes Eun Sang....and because he's bad in express his feeling, Eun Sang feels like Young Do is threatening and insisting his will towards her. Actually, he's soft against woman he loves. Such a gentleman, right? :3 Too bad Eun Sang choosing Kim Tan instead of Young Do.

Review: The Hunger Games Catching Fire

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson

Actually I've been watching this about 2 weeks ago with Ziyan and Raga, but have no time to write the review heheheh. So, here we go.

Name it as movie you've been waiting for since 2012. In the first Hunger Games, the movie itself just shown how the Hunger Games works, how Katniss and Peeta struggling until they won the games. After watching the first movie, I thought that the movie was ended at Katniss-won-the-game-so-game-over point. I didn't know that there're Hunger Games saga books and the second movie would be released at 2013. After I knew it, I didn't read the book deliberately, so I didn't compare the books and the movie when I'm watching.

The waiting (fortunately) paid off. There were dramas, action, conflict...mixed into one. That after Katniss and Peeta won, people considering them as symbol of hope..and love (even that was set up). It could bring some rebellion among people against Capitol. I've read a review about this in Huffington Post, somehow it shown some kind of Marxism ideology, when working class (proletarian) showing their displeasure towards bourgeoise class. Thus, Capitol wanted to destroy their hope by killing Katniss and Peeta within Quarter Quell, Hunger Games within the winners. To win among those winner, Haymitch advising Katniss and Peeta to ally with others. Finally, they got Finnick, Johanna, and 2 other people from somewhat district that I forgot :p. In the end, it shown that actually Heavensbee, Haymitch, and Finnick already planned this to fight against Capitol, but Peeta and Johanna were kidnapped...and to be continued to Mockingjay (would be released in 2014). For full stories, you gotta see it by yourself. It's no fun if you just read the review :p

Anyway, when I saw love triangle between Katniss-Peeta-Gale, I remembered about (almost) the same triangle between Bella-Jacob-Edward. Quite same, isn't it? Also I appreciate how Jennifer Lawrence bring the character of Katniss Everdeen. The character was strong and different from the way she acted as Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook. If we compared to Kristen Stewart when she acted as Bella in Twilight Saga and Snow White in Snow White and The Huntsman which we couldn't see the differences...well, no wonder Jen got the Oscar.

Can't wait for Mockingjay! :D

Dr. Antoni

Well, after a year of struggle (and mostly tears), finally my thesis is finished yaay! Now I'm still working on the revision, used for yudisium's requirement.

On my thesis defense, I got Mr. Antoni and Mr. Fikri as my prober. FYI, Mr. Fikri is a new lecturer while Mr. Antoni....well, what can I say about him? The students called him 'walking dictionary'. He is genius! With all respect to my other lecturer, but he knows all. I mean, ALL! He even knows which theories in which book in which page. He made me read a lot of books which I haven't read before (well, what have I been doing since the first semester? *-_-)....and surprisingly, I'm enjoying this. I wanna know more about communication studies.

Suddenly think to take master degree and becoming lecturer....
Amen to that? :)

How Could We Know?!

Senin kemarin, dalam edisi nungguin hujan reda. Ada aku, Uyab, Firdha, Findha, ama Tari. Kita nungguin hujan reda mulai jam 1 dan sampe jam 4 belum kelar-kelar juga. Nggak heran lah ya kalo obrolan jd ngelantur kemana2. Awalnya ngomongin gimana ngatur keuangan, gimana sih biar hemat, dsb. Eh lama2, sampai juga ke masalah cowok.

Uyab: Cowok itu ada 2 macem. Tipe pertama, ada cowok yang suka tantangan. Dia orangnya harus terus dibikin penasaran. Kalo ditengah2, dia ngerasa kalo ceweknya gampang didapetin, ya dia bakal males. Nah kalo cowok tipe kedua, ini tipe cowok yang ceweknya juga harus ikutan ngode, biar cowoknya tau kalo si cewek ini juga suka.
Findha: Trus gimana caranya kita tau cowok ini tipe pertama atau kedua?
Uyab: (diem bentar) Ya pake feeling
Aku, Firdha, Findha: Ya menurut nganaaaaa gimana caranya kita bisa nebak?!

Neither Faking Nor Saying The Truth

So, random things just happened this morning. When I woke up then took a bath, suddenly I thought about this stuffs. Which one is better when you are on approach term (or PDKT, in Indonesian term): you just be the real yourself no matter how silly you are OR you create an image as an ideal woman to get him as your guy?

I remembered, I talked with few friend about this topic. One friend (woman) said that yes indeed you HAVE to act like who you are, no faking things, no creating image. But the other friend (guy) said that when you're approaching someone, you are in game mode, which means that you have to be strategic! Pull-and-push, no badmood period....because the approach term are crucial. The guy will value you in the early 2 weeks. That's why, in that 2 weeks, the woman has to create a good image so the guy will attracted.

I do admit both of them are true, if you seeing it from different perspectives (yeah, since men are from Mars and women are from Venus). But, I still haven't get the answer even after I heard those argument from them: which one is better? Which one do you choose?

But if you asking me, probably I would answer like this:
I want the guy who accept me for the way I am from the first time we know each other.
I want the guy who all okay even I'm Milanisti when he's Juventini
I want the guy who all okay even when I'm eating a bowl of soto and another fried chicken in one go
I want the guy who all okay when we're eating ice cream together, and I'm asking 'may I have your ice cream? I want more'
I want the guy who all okay when I'm not replying his message while I'm so excited to read a lot of comics
I want the guy who all okay when I'm singing ABG Tua in front of him, with dancing of course

I want the guy who all okay when I call him and cry for some trouble I could've been made that day

Review: Captain Phillips

Actually the only reason why I want to watch this movie is the one and only Tom Hanks. When I saw the genre of this movie (action), I expected that Tom Hanks will play as man-with-the-gun roles. So yaah, I'm quite dissapointed with that sih. Just a little bit btw.
I always dreaming that I would like to be a war journalist, then being kidnapped, end up I'm saved by the government (HAHAHAHA!). Thus, I was excited when I saw this kidnapping scene. Honestly, I'm more captivated by the negosiator roles. They're so damn awesome when tricking the kidnapper, especially when the 3 kidnappers were shot in one shoot! I want to be saved like that somedaaay (another HAHAHA!)
Tom Hanks roles? Is it just me or maybe the other also think that the title shouldn't be 'Captain Phillips' but 'Saving Captain Phillips'?

Review: Insidious Chapter 2

So, for the third time, aku digeret lagi buat nonton film horor, this time was Insidious 2. As I said before, karena aku emang nggak suka film horor, jadinya aku nggak ngikutin Insidious yang pertama. Buat yang mau nonton sih, kalo gak nonton yang pertama, pasti agak bingung soalnya berkaitan banget, kayak contohnya pintu merah yang jadi pintu masuknya ke The Further, itu juga ada. Dan sungguh, nonton Insidious 2 ini beneran nggak baik buat kesehatan jantung. It's waaaayyy moooreeeee thrilling than The Conjuring even it got 7.2 at iMdb while The Conjuring got 7.7. Hantunya ngagetin dan nakutin semua hiks :'(

I can say that Insidious 2 ini adalah conclude dari film pertamanya. Buat yang nonton Insidious pertama (ini aku juga diceritain temenku sih), pasti masih inget scene dimana ada bride in black dress? Atau 3 perempuan di ruang tamu yang pake baju putih? Nah ntar bakal ketauan asal muasalnya kok. Termasuk hantu perempuan yang ada di Insidious pertama; dia siapa, kenapa kayak gitu, bakal kejawab. Nah, di ending Insidious pertama kita juga taunya Josh masih terperangkap di dunia mimpi kan. Trus, yang di tubuh Josh sekarang siapa? Itu ntar bakal ke-link back ama hantu perempuan di Insidious pertama. Yang so sweet, di Insidious pertama kan Josh nyelametin Dalton biar balik ke dunia nyata (dan Josh-nya ketinggalan disana). Di Insidious ini, Dalton-lah yang nyelametin ayahnya balik ke dunia nyata. Happy ending kok :)

Anyway, kalo lihat endingnya sih, kayaknya bakal ada Insidious 3, with Tucker, Specs, and Elise (her spirit) are on the cast. Masalahnya, aku berani nonton lagi atau nggak ya? -_-*

Review: Killing Season

Starring: Robert de Niro, John Travolta
Directed by: Mark Steven Johnson

Despite of putting the big names in action movie (Travolta and de Niro), I personally thought that this movie was unsuccessful. When saw the trailer, I was curious what will happen if Travolta and de Niro meet up in a movie. End up, I am quite dissapointed. Thumbs up for Travolta's Serbian accent, but for the others..it was boring. It might because the main point in this movie just two of them and no one else, not enough conflict (just because Ford shot at Kovac's back and Kovac wanted to take revenge *palm face*), and Kovac surrendered so easily. My expectation before was: Kovac will hunt all the army who killed his Scorpion team, and the end he will meet Ford and Ford win hahahaha. No doubt iMdb just give 5,3 out of 10. Yah, thank God it was John Travolta and Robert de Niro. They fought and acted well, at least.If it wasn't them, surely it would be more boring at all.

Inget nggak sih pelajaran IPS jaman SD kita dulu? Nah, kenyataannya? Indonesia sama sekali nggak terkenal tuh, kalo berdasarkan tiga sumber yang aku dapat diatas (atau memang sebenernya terkenal, tapi di orang-orang tertentu aja?) Padahal dari SD aja kita bahkan tau ada negara namanya Suriname di pojokan Amerika Selatan sono, bahkan nama UN Secretary General macam Boutros-Boutros Ghali. Apa di negara maju (eh, tapi Chile masih masuk developing country kan?) emang kurikulumnya nggak diajari sejarah? Atau karena mereka emang ngerasa nggak penting tau tentang adanya negara-negara di belahan dunia yang lain?

Review: The Conjuring

Actually I'm not a fan of horror movies. Aku sebenernya nggak niat mau nonton sih soalnya aku anaknya penakut :p Terakhir nonton horor, itu nonton film Mama ama Aziz. Sepanjang film juga cuma bisa teriak-teriak sambil nyubitin tangannya Aziz. Intinya, aku nggak bakat nonton film horror.
Tapi kemarin, aku diajak nonton The Conjuring ama Indah dan Rheno. Lihat di Twitter, banyak banget yang ngetwit kalo filmnya serem banget. Lihat di iMdb, ratingnya 8/10 which means kalo ini emang serem. Tapi yasutralah, surprise me. Yang jelas udah siap bawa tas gede buat nutupin muka.

I still don't get it what made it di-rating 8/10, since IMO, The Conjuring ini sama seremnya kayak Mama kemarin, dan Mama cuma di-rating 6,3/10. Apakah karena ini based on true story, entahlah. Beberapa scene hampir sama kok ama Mama, mereka pindah ke old haunted house, trus anak yang paling kecil bisa ngomong ama hantunya, hantunya invisible dan nyeret-nyeret mereka kemana-mana, ngikut kemanapun mereka pergi walaupun mereka gak di rumah itu, something like that. Tapi, The Conjuring ini hantunya ada banyak. I also thought that Carolyn would die in the end karena biasanya kan orang kalo possessed dan gak kuat mereka bakal mati, tapi ternyata........ (watch it yourself, ntar spoiler :p)

Overall, it was spooky kok. Sound-nya ngagetin, hantunya mendadak munculnya, wajahnya serem pula. 25k and 2 hours was worth for watching this movie.

Surprise! (But Maybe Not For Some People)

But, Pandji said in his lately post kalo "Jangan pernah anggap remeh apapun yang anda tahu. Karena di tangan orang lain, informasi itu bisa jadi penting.

Actually I'm not that into 'heavy' discussions sih. Soalnya kadang males mikirnya hahahaha. Tapi, sejak deket ama Tari (whom I adore for her HUGE cognition), banyak diskusi-diskusi yang muncul dan akhirnya bikin aku penasaran. Mulai dari:

campur tangan Amerika yang nyuplai senjatanya GAM

naiknya Soeharto jadi Presiden yang didalangi Amerika juga
(kalo ini sih, karena Amerika menganggap Soekarno bisa jadi ancaman buat masuknya Amerika ke sana)

pembunuhan Munir yang didalangi BIN

trus kita kan punya perusahaan negara yang bisa bikin pesawat terbang sendiri (PT. DI), tapi kenapa kita nggak bikin pesawat terbang sendiri aja, malah selalu beli ke negara lain? Jadi ceritanya pemerintah kita (I'm not sure jamannya siapa) bikin perjanjian ama World Bank+IMF kalo kita bakal dipinjemi duit, asalkan kita nggak bakal memproduksi pesawat terbang sendiri.

Trus juga, gara-gara bulan kemarin jadi panitianya JOVED dan liat motionnya yang bikin aku nganga (soalnya aku nggak seberapa paham ama kasus begituan, kayak konfliknya Israel-Palestine, Syria's civil war, Edward Snowden thing, blablabla), jadinya ngerasa ashamed ama diri sendiri karena gak tau begituan, padahal anak komunikasi massa *sigh* *nyadarnya baru pas semester akhir* But it's not too late to become more literacy people righttt :)

Something's Wrong With My Head

Actually, I'm a fan of pop/alternative songs for years, especially songs with a mid-low beat, like John Mayer, Raisa, Maliq and D'Essentials, or even The Script and Coldplay for alternative. I rarely like RnB, hiphop, trance, nor electropop music because it's too noisy for me. But lately, dunno why I downloaded tons of those kind of songs. Well, guess my currently messed up life need some beats to boost me up :D

The Host

Adapted from a novel, I can say that this was a quite good movie. Plotnya pas, nggak berlebihan, dan menurutku malah adegan2 yang ada bikin ceritanya lebih simpel, beda ama di novel yang bikin bosen karena terlalu ruwet. What I love the most from The Host, both in novel and in movie, is the sweet ending part :3

Di novel, aku lebih simpati ama dramanya Ian-Wanda daripada Melanie-Jared. Lebih complicated dan impossible tapi nyatanya berakhir bahagia. And thanks God, pemerannya Ian sesuai ekspetasi kyaaaaaaaa :3
